Puja
by Tonie Silver
July 6, 2010

I like my patchouli to be like my Husband~ strong, dark, warm, and
rich~ and Evan Healy's
Puja Patchouli fits the bill. Starts off dry and
sharp and wears beautifully, drying down to a lastingly sweet
softness. Wear this oil to bed~ you'll be glad you did. Evan's products
are simple and fine, and this essential oil is a shining example of her
discerning nose. I should've known that this would be a great
patchouli; I reviewed Evan's range a few years ago, and she was a
patchouli lover way back then. Tuzzah. One of the nicest I have ever
tried, Evan's offerings confirm to me everything I ♥ about patchouli.
This is a truly memorable oil. One of the top three patchouli's I have
ever smelled.

Puja Vetiver is another lovely offering from Evan, soft, sweet, and
quiet, while being faceted and notey. Impressive. Another memorable
oil that begs to be worn and smelled.

Evan's presentation is lovely; the oils come in chubby little bottles
that are a delight to hold. The oils inside were mighty enough to
please me and make me smile. Impressive enough, in fact, that I'm
ordering some more~ and if you read my reviews, you know that
means I ♥ the product! Shipping was lightening fast, arriving via
FedEx the very next day~ points for that.

I look forward to Evan's offerings in her
Puja range~ if these two oils
are any indication, they're sure to be a delight!

Really Raw
By Tonie Silver

Raw Gaia’s concept is that oils shouldn’t be heated above a certain
temp, therefore preserving all of their healthful, life giving qualities.
Peep their site for more.

Raw Gaia makes one of the singularly nicest facial moisturizers I
have ever had the pleasure of using.  For Her Daughters Living
Moisturiser is a blend of cocoa butter, cold pressed oils, and
essential oils of palmarosa, rose geranium, and lavender.  This starts
as a really nice delicate solid, then liquifies upon contact.  Just
luverly.  Smells delightful.  The pink label is a pleasure to gaze on~
very Marcia Brady.  Highly recommended.

Raw Gaia’s Living Facial Cleanser is not what I expected at all.
Almost water-like as opposed to oily, this mix of floral waters, cold
pressed oils, and essential oils will give your cleansing routine a
new twist.  Tea tree and juniper berry dominate the scent blend.
Spray it on, rinse off or remove with a warm cloth.  A really nice
product.

I am so impressed with this range; I heartily encourage LPR readers
to experience Raw Gaia.

Aah, Girl…
By Tonie Silver

I get to meet so many cool, interesting, talented chicks (and the
occasional dude!) as I do this review gig, the latest of which I’ve
dubbed The Lapsang Girl.  My friend Jill, The Strange Girl, said “I
love that you call her that”, to which I replied “Well you get to be The
Strange Girl, she’s The Lapsang Girl, what do I get to be?”, and she
replied “You get to be Deep Throat!”  Get your minds out of the
gutter, she was referring to the Watergate expose guy, not the movie!:)
So, Kaitlyn ni Donovan, of Vireo scents of nature by knd totally had
me at Lapsang Tea Oil.  Any chick who infuses one of my favoritest
teas, smoky Lapsang Souchong, in oil is okay by me.  Layer this oil
over patchouli and smell happy.  Think of it as your LBD~ one that
goes with anything, just making it cooler.  Haven’t tried Lapsang?
Do~ you may just love it~ trust me, you’ll know immediately which
camp you’re in.

Point of info: a vireo is a shy little birdie; a singer, whose Latin
name translates into “I am green”~ appropriate for a violin playing
Natural Botanical Perfumer, wouldn’t you say?

Kait made me my own dear little blend~ For Tonie~ how sweet!:)  It
has a wee little label that one almost needs to view through a looking
glass!  Very quiet, sweet, and soothing, with notes of cardamom,
myrrh, labdanum, patchouli, and rose.  Spicy sweet whilst smelling
unique and memorable.  Wholly unlike any other scent I have ever
smelt~ perhaps due to the costus infusion?  Has a bit of a tang to it.

Smoke Follows Beauty is my kind of perfume: smoky-sweet, with
notes of Lapsang, coconutty Vanatu sandalwood, vanilla, and cocoa.
Think: sitting by a campfire toasting s’mores.  Yummy.  Fir gives the
forest, while incense comes at the hands of of frankincense, smoke
from the Lapsang and cade.  Growing up in Alaska and living in
Portland, Kait knows a thing or three about campfires, and it
translates beautifully in this blend.  Transports the wearer.  Perfume
as art, this.  How it should be, people, how it should be.

Vireo’s Organic Tahitian & Madagascar Vanilla Bean Oil has a high
yum factor.  This oil has a really edible quality to it, due to the
Madagascar infusion.  Layers nicely with patchouli~ then again,
what doesn’t?!  Drop some in your facial mask blend and sniff it in
peace.  Wear it to bed and dream that you are a great big giant cookie
or hunk of cake.  Children will follow you, men will lick you.  Wait…!
Kait is doing such interesting things with natural botanicals~ last I
looked, she was offering a natural banana business~ can you
imagine???!

Anyhoo, Vireo is one of my new favorites~ I’m sure I’m in first place
of a big ol’ line.:)  Look for more and more great things from this girl.
I’ve got my eye~ and nose~ on Kaitlyn.

HOPI
By Tonie Silver

Oh yeah.  I am blown away.
First impressions last, Guv, and Emmelie Brunetti’s HOPI
Botanicals Black Amber Balm range storms its way in like Jimi &
Janis.  Arriving in a wooden casket with the HOPI logo burned in,
Emmelie includes a little polished  stone & a real Buffalo Head
Nickel~ how cool is this chick???!  Topped off with a peacock feather
including a funkdoobious postcard, this is a gift for yourself or ready
for giving.
Presented in little tins with distressed labels, here’s where it gets
crazy~ these balms are black!  How cool is that?  Yup~ charcoal.
These are all riffs on an amber theme.  Vetiver has delightfully smoky
overtones, with notes of coriander, black pepper, and tonka, while
Oakmoss is sweet & softly powdery, with notes of cedar, petitgrain,
and labdanum.  Vintage Patchouli is deepened with agarwood and
orris, whilst  being brightened with citrus notes of bergamot, red
grapefruit, and blood orange.
Emmelie crafts her Black Amber Balms with certified organic
jojoba oil and certified organic unfiltered beeswax.  These perfumes
are soft and do not overwhelm.  More like a whisper to oneself and
one’s lover.
The vibe I get here is that this is something you’d pick up at an
outpost store in a Clint Eastwood movie.  Very cool indeed.

Anthology
By Tonie Silver

The first thing that caught my eye about Anthology’s range, was
the packaging; really cool distressed postage looking labels.  The
product inside did not disappoint.  Lots of fine organic ingredients
crafted into caring products.
Anthology’s Facial Scrub is a real treat!  Little poppy seeds roll
about your skin like so many ball bearings, leaving it satiny and
polished.  Rhassoul mud and kaolin clay gently deep clean the skin.
Use this as a mask in the tub too.
Lullaby For Dry Skin Facial Serum is a super nice oil.
Incredibly moisturizing, with tons of really good oils: jojoba, argan,
rice bran, and macadamia to name a few.   Scented with the pinky
green rosiness of palmarosa, deepened with patchouli, and
brightened with geranium, and orange.  Really envelopes skin in
moisture that lasts all day.  Recommended.
Crème Exotique Body Butter is a shea butter and oil combo.
Starts out orange with a patchouli bottom~ nice!  Good for relieving
the discomfort of dry legs and hands.

Feather Heart
By Tonie Silver

    Oh yay!  Perfectly simple products!
 Feather Heart Trading
Company
is one to know.  Two or three ingredients, glass bottles and
jars, hand written labels, yay, yay, yay!:)  My kind of products all the
way around!

    Feather Heart’s
Patchouli Oil is patchouli infused olive oil; use it
après bain and beyond.  The thing I dig so much about this oil is that
it gives an entirely different spin on patchouli, one that I haven’t
smelled in ages.  Patchouli infused oil differs from patchouli
essential oil in that it smells deeper, older, more powdery and dusty.

Don’t worry about the scent being overpowering~ it’s very
unobtrusive.  In fact, I’d like it if it were three times stronger!  Me
likes much!

Patchouli Rose Salve is another perfect mix; patchouli and roses
infused in olive oil with the addition of beeswax.  The scent of rose
predominates in this blend, lending an antique aroma with a
background of spice.  Fab texture; use it on hands, lips, hair,
anywhere.

    Feather Heart’s
Lavender Face and Body Oil is simply lavender
infused in olive oil.  What a lovely product.  I find that infused oils
seem to have a richer, rounder, softer scent than essential oils.  With
this infusion you get the whole plant, the buds, the flowers, the
stems.  Nice and sweet and herbaceous.  In fact, this is such a nice
oil, that I think I prefer it to the
Patchouli, and that’s saying
something!  A joyful product.

Rock on Feather Heart~ don’t change a thing!

Shaydoobeh
By Tonie Silver

I was so looking forward to reviewing a custom perfume that English
perfumer Jaymie Smith had created just for me.  Alack~ it was not to
be~ the bottle arrived horribly shattered (get the Stone's reference in
the title now?), and I was unable to salvage a single drop for
application on my person.  All I was left with for this review were
some marvelously scented cotton pads and shards of glass.  Bearing
that in mind, my impressions are reminiscent of Tabu and Opium,
rich, dark, and heady, with notes of myrtle, linden absolute, pine,
silver fir, siberian fir, spruce hemlock, oakmoss absolute, labdanum
absolute, sandalwood, and Himalayan cedarwood, all lovingly crafted
into a memorable potion that bewitches and haunts.  Like warm skin,
this perfume gives the impression that it would've become one with
the wearer, like your own smell, only more, and better.  The
fragrance it filled my home with made me even more wistful over the
breakage.  Jaymie is an obviously talented Natural Perfumer~ a fact
made even more impressive because he is only nineteen years old!
Check Jaymie out~ he rocks even though I was unable to wear the
creation he lovingly crafted for me.
